About Me
My name is Steven Allen Adams. You can call me Steve.
My Facebook: facebook.com/sadams
My Twitter: @stevenadamswv
I was born in Irvine, CA; raised in St. Marys, WV; started my journalism career in the Parkersburg, WV/Marietta, OH, area; and now I’m a news producer for WOWK-TV 13 in Charleston, WV.
My journalism experience, not counting high school or college? More than five years in the print, radio, web, and TV worlds:
- 2002 – Summer internship at The Parkersburg News & Sentinel in Parkersburg, WV
- 2006-2008 – Staff writer, city editor, and managing editor for Register Publishing in Marietta, OH (The Marietta Register, The Parkersburg Register)
- 2006-2008 – Radio news reporter/afternoon news anchor, Results Radio in Parkersburg, WV (95 XIL, Z 106, Froggy 99, 103.1 The Bear, AM 1050 WADC, AM 1230 WVNT)
- 2008-2009 – Staff writer, The Tyler Star News in Sistersville, WV
- 2009-2012 – West Virginia Watchdog
- 2010-2011 – Kanawha Valley Live
- 2011-2012 – Reuters
- 2012-present – WOWK-TV 13
My work has been cited too many times to count by both state and national media, and I’m often sought out for my insights on West Virginia politics.
This blog is an evolution of sorts. I have no college degree, so I owe my current journalism career to blogging. Had I not been blogging in 2006, I would have never been offered my first full-time newspaper job.
I started the blog Unsilent Majority in 2001, following the examples of pioneer bloggers Matt Welch (now the editor-in-chief of Reason Magazine), Ken Layne (now the editor of Wonkette), and Tony Pierce (now the blog editor at the L.A. Times). That blog morphed into The Holywriter, then floated around during my early years as a reporter. This should be the last time I change blogs though.
The point? Simply to chronicle my life. It’s a pretty good life so far and things keep getting better. I love my city, my apartment, my career, my friends, my family, etc. I’m doing this mostly through pictures, though I’m writing here and there.
Enjoy.
